Could a simple vacuum stop deadly infections in diabetic surgery patients?

NCT ID NCT07392853

First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a special wound vacuum (NPWT) right after emergency abdominal surgery can prevent infections in diabetic patients at high risk. About 110 adults with diabetes will be randomly assigned to get either the vacuum or standard care. Researchers will also check if the extra cost is worth it for the healthcare system.
