New Battery-Powered ultrasound could spot hidden heart defects without surgery
NCT ID NCT07420400
First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tests a new, battery-powered ultrasound device that is placed on the chest to detect a right-to-left shunt in the heart, such as a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO). The goal is to see if this non-invasive method is as sensitive as the standard test (TEE with bubble study), which requires a tube down the throat. About 75 people already scheduled for a TEE will also get the new device scan, and results will be compared.
