New ultrasound could replace painful liver biopsies

NCT ID NCT07128108

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing a new ultrasound technique called visual transient elastography (ViTE) to measure liver fat and scarring in people with chronic liver injury. Researchers will compare the ultrasound results to the standard liver biopsy to see how accurate the new method is. About 225 adults aged 18-65 who recently had a liver biopsy will take part. The goal is to find clear cutoff values that can help diagnose liver problems without needing a needle biopsy.
