Which surgery helps broken thigh bones heal better? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07280169
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing two different surgical devices used to fix a broken bone near the knee (distal femur fracture). The goal is to see which device leads to better bone healing and fewer repeat surgeries. About 100 adults who need surgery for this type of break will be randomly assigned to receive either a carbon-fiber plate or a standard metal plate with a nail. Both devices are already used in standard care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Carbo-fix carbon fiber lateral locking plate and standard lateral plate with intramedullary nail
- What this could lead to
- If this trial succeeds, it could show that one of these standard surgical approaches reduces the chance of the bone not healing, lowering the need for repeat surgeries.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (100 people) comparing two already-approved devices, so any difference may be small or not apply to all patients. There are no new drugs or major innovations being tested.
