First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested whether short-course radiation followed by chemotherapy could eliminate rectal cancer without the need for surgery. 63 adults with early-stage rectal cancer were enrolled. The goal was to see if the tumor completely disappeared based on exams, scans, and biopsies. If successful, patients could avoid major surgery and its long-term side effects.
