No food, no worry? study says skip the fast for calmer cataract surgery
NCT ID NCT04769856
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study looked at whether letting patients eat and drink normally before cataract surgery could lower their anxiety. 126 adults having their first cataract surgery under numbing drops were split into two groups: one fasted, one did not. Researchers measured anxiety levels and checked for complications during surgery. The goal was to see if a simple change in pre-surgery instructions could make the experience less stressful.
