Could hidden blood vessels save your sight? new study challenges AMD dogma
NCT ID NCT06125977
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests a new idea: that a certain type of blood vessel growth under the retina in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) may actually help preserve vision, not harm it. Researchers will follow 73 adults aged 50 and older with AMD to compare vision and eye structure in areas with and without these vessels. The goal is to understand if these vessels slow down vision loss, which could change how doctors think about AMD.
