Swallow a sponge, skip the scope: new test for esophagus condition
NCT ID NCT06803927
First seen Mar 19, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tests a new way to detect Barrett's esophagus, a condition that can lead to cancer, without using a traditional endoscopy. Participants swallow a capsule with a sponge that collects cells from the esophagus. The cells are then tested for specific markers and compared to results from a standard endoscopy. The goal is to see if this simpler, less invasive method can accurately identify the condition in 700 people at risk.
