Shocking spasticity: new trial zaps arm stiffness with targeted pulses

NCT ID NCT07321158

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests whether a short burst of electrical stimulation to the arm muscles can reduce spasticity—stiffness and tightness—in people who have had a stroke or other brain or spinal cord injury. About 45 adults with upper limb spasticity will be randomly assigned to receive either high or low pulse duration electrical stimulation, or standard care alone. Researchers will measure changes in muscle activity, range of motion, and daily function to see which approach works best.
