Breathing gas during surgery may shield kidneys from damage

Summary

This study tests whether giving inhaled nitric oxide during heart surgery can prevent acute kidney injury in high-risk patients. About 330 adults having planned heart surgery will receive either the gas or a placebo. Researchers will check kidney function for 90 days after surgery to see if the treatment helps.
