Simple swab could spare women unnecessary breast surgery

NCT ID NCT07250204

Summary

This study is testing a new lab test that analyzes DNA from nipple fluid to tell if a woman's bloody nipple discharge is caused by cancer or a harmless condition. Currently, many women with this symptom undergo surgery for diagnosis, but most turn out to have benign (non-cancerous) conditions. Researchers hope this test could help identify cancers while allowing women with benign conditions to avoid unnecessary operations.
