Blood pressure drug tested to curb alcohol cravings

Summary

This small Yale study is testing whether nimodipine, a blood pressure medication, can reduce alcohol drinking in people with alcohol use disorder. Five non-treatment-seeking adults will stay overnight in a hospital, receive the drug, and then participate in a lab session where they can choose to drink alcohol or take money instead. Researchers will measure how much alcohol is consumed and any changes in craving or side effects.
