Antibiotic trial targets toxic brain fog in liver patients

NCT ID NCT05754996

Summary

This study tested whether an antibiotic called nifuroxazide could safely treat brain fog (hepatic encephalopathy) in people with advanced liver disease. It involved 80 Egyptian patients hospitalized with moderate to severe symptoms. The goal was to see if the drug could clear the brain fog by reducing gut bacteria that produce harmful toxins absorbed by the body.
