First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether nicorandil, a drug usually used for heart conditions, can reduce inflammation and improve symptoms in people with active rheumatoid arthritis. 46 participants will take nicorandil tablets for 3 months. Researchers will measure joint disease activity and physical function to see if the drug helps.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Nicorandil (oral tablet)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for rheumatoid arthritis that reduces inflammation and improves daily function.

What could go wrong

This is a small early-phase trial with only 46 people, so results may not apply widely. Nicorandil is not a standard arthritis drug, and its safety and effectiveness are still unproven.
