Gentler sedation breakthrough for hospitalized newborns

NCT ID NCT07241351

Summary

This study tested whether adding a medication called dexmedetomidine could help reduce the amount of strong pain medication (fentanyl) needed for full-term newborns on breathing machines. Researchers enrolled 40 infants aged 1-28 days who were starting mechanical ventilation. The goal was to see if this combination provided better pain control with fewer side effects like breathing problems or low blood pressure.
