New wound closure method aims to improve healing after high-risk surgery

NCT ID NCT03861065

First seen Apr 17, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looked at a different way to close surgical cuts (incisions) in the belly after gynecologic surgery. Instead of leaving the wound open or closing it all at once, doctors partially closed it right after surgery and fully closed it 4-7 days later. The goal was to see if this method helps wounds heal better and improves quality of life. The study included 8 patients with high-risk wounds, but it was stopped early.
