New triple therapy aims to reverse early type 2 diabetes

NCT ID NCT07635953

First seen Jun 13, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a combination of three drugs (tirzepatide, empagliflozin, and pioglitazone) can help people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes achieve remission better than standard metformin-based therapy. About 296 adults will take the triple combo or standard treatment daily for 6 months, then stop medication to see if their blood sugar stays normal. The goal is to improve beta-cell function and achieve diabetes remission without needing lifelong drugs.
