Summary

This study is developing a new scoring tool called REXs to help doctors decide when it is safe to remove a breathing tube from patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). The tool combines several medical measurements to predict whether a patient can breathe on their own without needing the tube back within 48 hours. The study will involve 470 adults who are ready to start the process of coming off the breathing machine.
