New scan could spare thyroid cancer patients from ineffective treatment

NCT ID NCT03647358

Summary

This study is testing a new type of PET scan that uses a special form of iodine (iodine-124) to better measure how much radioactive iodine is taken up by thyroid cancer that has spread. The goal is to see if this scan can more accurately predict which patients will benefit from standard radioactive iodine therapy. If the scan shows low uptake, doctors may recommend a different treatment approach instead.
