Scientists spot 'Showering Cells' to pinpoint dangerous lung infection

NCT ID NCT07395310

Summary

This study is testing a new way to diagnose aspiration pneumonia, a serious lung infection that happens when food or stomach contents are inhaled into the lungs. Researchers are checking if finding special cells, called 'showering cells,' in fluid washed from a patient's lungs can help doctors make a faster and more accurate diagnosis. They are comparing this new cell test against the current standard methods in 94 hospitalized adults.
