New TB tests could speed up diagnosis in pakistan
NCT ID NCT06984887
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study in Pakistan compares two new TB diagnostic tests (Pluslife MTBC and Ustar PortNAT) to the standard Xpert Ultra test. Researchers will collect tongue swabs and sputum from 6,100 people screened for TB. The goal is to see if the new tests are accurate, faster, and easier to use in community settings, which could help find and treat TB cases earlier.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, these new tests could make TB diagnosis faster, cheaper, and easier in the field, helping find more cases and stop the spread.
What could go wrong
This is a diagnostic accuracy study, not a treatment trial. The new tests may not be as accurate as current methods, and results may not apply outside this setting.
