Non-Invasive probe spots tough nasal polyps in seconds
NCT ID NCT07125586
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new, non-invasive device that uses a special light to quickly identify a hard-to-treat type of nasal polyp called eosinophilic CRSwNP. Currently, diagnosing this subtype requires surgery to take a tissue sample, which can delay treatment. The device shines a safe light on the polyp during a clinic visit and analyzes the glow to give a diagnosis in real time. Researchers will enroll 353 adults with nasal polyps to see how accurate and safe the system is compared to standard lab tests.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
High-sensitivity spectroscopy with autofluorescence diagnostic system
What this could lead to
If successful, this could allow doctors to diagnose a hard-to-treat subtype of nasal polyps before surgery, leading to more personalized treatment and fewer unnecessary operations.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. The system may not be accurate enough in real-world use, and it only helps with diagnosis, not with curing the condition.
