New scan could spot dangerous transplant complication early

NCT ID NCT03367962

Summary

This study tested a new type of PET scan to see if it could find and predict Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD), a serious complication after a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. Researchers gave the scan to patients who were suspected of having GVHD or were at high risk for it, and compared the scan results to tissue samples. The goal was to see if this scan, which lights up active immune cells, could help doctors diagnose the disease earlier and more accurately.
