Surgeons test new method to prevent heartburn after achalasia surgery

NCT ID NCT07178821

Summary

This study compares two versions of a minimally invasive throat surgery for achalasia, a rare swallowing disorder. Researchers want to see if preserving certain muscle fibers during the procedure reduces acid reflux afterward while still effectively treating the swallowing problem. 120 adults with achalasia will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard surgery or the modified version and followed for one year.
