Breakthrough pain treatment could reduce need for opioids after surgery

Summary
This study tested whether a new medicine called HTX-011 could better control pain and reduce the need for opioid painkillers after hernia surgery. Researchers compared HTX-011 against both a placebo (saltwater injection) and a standard pain medicine in 418 patients. The medicine was applied directly to the surgical site during the operation to provide targeted pain relief during recovery.
