New MRI scanner could spot stroke damage faster

NCT ID NCT07004140

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing a new type of MRI scanner, called Field-Cycling Imaging (FCI), to see if it can detect brain changes within the first day of a stroke. Researchers will compare FCI scans with standard MRI scans in 40 acute stroke patients. Participants will also provide blood samples to study blood clots. The goal is to find out if FCI can identify brain tissue that might recover, which could improve future stroke care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a better way to identify brain tissue that might recover after a stroke, helping doctors make faster treatment decisions.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (40 people) testing a new imaging technique, not a treatment. The new scanner may not prove more useful than standard MRI, and results may not apply to all stroke patients.
