New wearable device could revolutionize kidney monitoring in ICUs
NCT ID NCT07643467
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will test a new wearable device that measures kidney function in real time, compared to the standard 8-hour urine collection method. Researchers will give 200 critically ill patients two dyes (relmapirazin and iohexol) and use a skin sensor to track how quickly their kidneys clear them. The goal is to see if this faster, less cumbersome method is accurate enough for routine hospital use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Relmapirazin (Lumitrace) and iohexol
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a faster, more accurate way to measure kidney function in hospitalized patients, helping doctors dose medications more precisely.
What could go wrong
This is an early comparison study, not a treatment trial. The device may not prove more accurate than existing methods, and results may not apply to all patients.
