Shape-Shifting heart catheter tested in humans to zap dangerous irregular heartbeat

NCT ID NCT07301190

Summary

This is the first human trial of a new catheter designed to treat persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib), a long-lasting irregular heartbeat. The catheter can change shape to deliver targeted electrical pulses to scar small areas of heart tissue, aiming to block the faulty electrical signals causing the AFib. The study will enroll 40 patients to see if the procedure is safe and creates lasting scars, with follow-up checks for one year.
