New hope for kids with leukemia: engineering transplants to fight disease without dangerous side effects

NCT ID NCT07366801

Summary

This study is testing a new method for stem cell transplants in children with high-risk or relapsed leukemia. The goal is to prevent Graft-Versus-Host Disease (GVHD), a serious complication where donor immune cells attack the patient's body. Researchers are engineering the transplant by removing some immune cells and adding special 'regulatory' cells, hoping to reduce GVHD while still allowing the transplant to fight the leukemia and infections.
