Nerve-Growth eye drops tested for dry eye relief

Summary
This study tested a new eye drop containing a protein called nerve growth factor (rhNGF) to see if it could safely improve symptoms of dry eye disease. Over 300 adults with moderate-to-severe dry eye used either one of two strengths of the new drop or a placebo drop three times a day for four weeks. Researchers measured changes in eye dryness, tear production, and eye surface health to see if the new treatment worked better than the placebo.
