Pill may jumpstart guts after major surgery

NCT ID NCT02425774

Summary

This study tested if a drug called prucalopride could reduce inflammation and help patients recover bowel function faster after pancreas surgery. Researchers gave the drug before surgery to 31 patients and measured inflammation levels and recovery times. The goal was to see if this approach could prevent or shorten a common complication where the bowels temporarily stop working after surgery.
