Promising drug cocktail aims to shrink penile cancer before surgery

NCT ID NCT07518979

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This phase II trial tests a combination of two drugs—Becotatug vedotin (a targeted therapy that attacks cancer cells with a specific protein) and Pucotenlimab (an immunotherapy that boosts the immune system)—in men with advanced penile cancer that is hard to treat with surgery alone. About 60 participants will receive the drugs before surgery to see if it shrinks the tumor enough for complete removal. The goal is to improve outcomes and possibly reduce the extent of surgery needed.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Becotatug vedotin (targeted therapy) and Pucotenlimab (immunotherapy)

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could shrink advanced penile cancer enough to allow complete surgical removal, potentially improving survival and reducing the need for more extensive surgery.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase II trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Side effects like skin rash, immune reactions, and organ stress are possible, and the treatment may not work for all patients.
