New hope for toughest leukemia cases: white blood cell boost added to transplant

NCT ID NCT07372885

Summary

This trial is testing a new type of stem cell transplant for young adults (under 55) with a very high-risk form of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that hasn't responded well to standard chemotherapy. The treatment uses umbilical cord blood stem cells and adds extra infusions of a type of white blood cell called granulocytes, based on promising results seen in children. The study will first check if this approach is safe for adults and then see if it works better than a standard transplant at preventing the cancer from coming back.
