Chemical-Free CO2 removal in anesthesia shows promise in 286-Patient trial

NCT ID NCT03014336

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tested a new way to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air patients breathe during anesthesia, without using chemical filters. Current chemical filters can create harmful compounds, increase costs, and create environmental waste. The trial included 286 low- to medium-risk surgery patients and measured CO2 levels during their procedures to see if the new method works safely.
