New blood test could revolutionize latent TB diagnosis

NCT ID NCT06728930

First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study is testing a new blood test that may be able to find tiny amounts of TB bacteria in people with dormant (latent) TB infection. Current tests only measure the immune response, which doesn't tell doctors if treatment worked or who will get sick later. The study will enroll 250 adults, including those with latent TB and active TB, to see if the test is accurate. If successful, it could lead to better diagnosis and fewer unnecessary antibiotic treatments.
