New antibiotic cocktail takes on superbug pneumonia in hospitals
NCT ID NCT07326540
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests a new antibiotic combination (BV100 plus low-dose polymyxin B) against a standard treatment (colistin plus ampicillin/sulbactam) for hospital-acquired or ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by a drug-resistant bacteria called CRABC. The study will enroll 248 adults and measure survival rates at 28 days. It aims to find a safer and more effective way to treat this serious infection.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
BV100 (an antibiotic) plus low-dose polymyxin B
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new treatment option for a hard-to-treat, drug-resistant pneumonia in hospitalized patients.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 3 trial, but results are not yet known. The new combination may not be more effective or safer than existing treatments, and side effects from the antibiotics are possible.
