New hope for chemo patients: drug trial aims to stop numbness and pain
NCT ID NCT07320950
Summary
This study tested whether a drug called Neurotropin can prevent or reduce nerve damage (neuropathy) caused by a common chemotherapy drug, oxaliplatin, in people with stage II or III colorectal cancer. Over 300 patients were randomly assigned to receive either Neurotropin or a placebo (a dummy pill) alongside their standard chemotherapy. The main goal was to see if Neurotropin could lower the rate of severe nerve pain, numbness, and tingling, which often force patients to stop or reduce their cancer treatment.
