Nerve block combo calms brain injury storms
NCT ID NCT06354673
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a nerve block (stellate ganglion block) combined with either dexmedetomidine or low-dose ketamine to treat 'neurostorm' — a dangerous overreaction of the body's stress system after a traumatic brain injury. The goal was to calm symptoms like high blood pressure, fast heart rate, and fever, and to see if patients could recover faster. 205 critically ill adults took part, and researchers compared how quickly symptoms went away and how long patients stayed in the ICU.
