Mindfulness and muscle zaps: new combo for stroke rehab?

NCT ID NCT06302946

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether combining neuromuscular electrical stimulation with mindfulness breathing exercises can improve lung function, physical abilities, and stress levels in stroke survivors. Sixty stroke patients aged 50-65 will be randomly assigned to receive either stimulation alone or stimulation plus mindfulness. The goal is to see if the added mindfulness practice leads to better recovery outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
neuromuscular electrical stimulation and mindfulness breathing
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to improve breathing, movement, and stress after a stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 participants. The mindfulness component may not add significant benefit over stimulation alone, and results may not apply to all stroke patients.
