First seen Mar 18, 2026 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study aims to see if the brain produces organized electrical signals in the minutes after the heart stops but before brain death is declared. Researchers will use a non-invasive head cap with sensors (EEG) and artificial intelligence to capture and store these signals. The study will enroll 20 adults with terminal illness or severe trauma who have a do-not-resuscitate order and are expected to live less than 7 days.
