Glowing dye lights up nerves to prevent surgical damage

NCT ID NCT05377554

Summary

This study tested a special fluorescent dye called bevonescein that is designed to make nerves glow under special light during surgery. It was given to 154 patients undergoing head or neck operations like thyroid or parotid gland removal. The goal was to see if this glowing effect helps surgeons better see and avoid important nerves, potentially reducing the risk of accidental injury.
