Zapping a nerve to calm the heart
NCT ID NCT03327649
Summary
This study tested a new, non-drug approach for a common type of heart failure where the heart pumps normally but doesn't relax well. Researchers wanted to see if gently stimulating a nerve in the neck for one hour a day could reduce body-wide inflammation and improve how well the heart fills with blood. They compared the real nerve stimulation to a fake (sham) treatment in 52 patients over three months.
