Surgeons use nerve as guide to reduce digestive issues after liver surgery

NCT ID NCT07462091

Summary

This study tested a specific type of surgery for people with advanced liver scarring (cirrhosis) who have complications like an enlarged spleen and bleeding. The surgery aimed to remove the spleen and reroute blood flow while carefully avoiding a major nerve to see if it reduced common digestive problems like diarrhea and bloating after the operation. All 15 participants received the surgery and were followed for 3 months to check for these side effects and other health measures.
