Nerve blocks could help heart surgery patients breathe on their own sooner

NCT ID NCT07475884

Summary

This study tested whether using targeted nerve blocks for pain relief after major heart surgery helps patients recover faster. Researchers compared patients who received these ultrasound-guided nerve blocks to those who got standard pain medications. They looked at whether the blocks reduced pain, lowered opioid use, helped patients get off breathing machines sooner, and improved their oxygen levels after surgery.
