Scientists test fake shots to uncover truth about pain treatments

NCT ID NCT06668116

Summary

This study aimed to create a convincing fake anesthetic injection to improve future research on nerve blocks for pain. Researchers tested a diluted solution on 17 healthy volunteers to see if it could mimic the feeling of a real nerve block without providing pain relief. The goal is to enable better 'blinded' studies where no one knows who got the real treatment, leading to more reliable evidence about whether nerve blocks actually work.
