Week-Long nerve block could ease phantom pain and reduce opioid need after amputation

NCT ID NCT03461120

Summary

This study is testing if a 7-day continuous nerve block after leg amputation can prevent chronic phantom limb pain, improve mobility, and reduce the need for opioid painkillers. It involves 203 participants who are randomly assigned to receive either a strong numbing medicine or a weaker one followed by a placebo for a week. The main goal is to see if this longer, stronger nerve block leads to better physical function and less pain nine months after surgery.
