Neck surgery showdown: which approach causes fewer swallowing problems?

NCT ID NCT07533864

First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study compares two common methods for anterior cervical spine surgery: the Smith-Robinson approach and the strap-splitting approach. Both use the same skin cut but differ in how the surgeon reaches the spine. The goal is to see which approach leads to fewer swallowing and voice problems after surgery. About 100 adults having neck surgery will take part and fill out questionnaires about their symptoms during follow-up visits.
