Breath of hope: inhaled blood thinner tested to save ventilated COVID patients

NCT ID NCT04545541

Summary

This international study tested whether inhaling a mist containing heparin, a common blood thinner, could help COVID-19 patients who need breathing machines. Researchers wanted to see if this treatment could help patients get off ventilators faster and improve survival. The trial involved critically ill adults in intensive care units across multiple countries who were receiving mechanical ventilation for severe COVID-19 pneumonia.
