Shining a light on surgery safety: can a nasal treatment stop dangerous infections?

Summary
This large study is testing whether a special nasal light treatment can prevent dangerous infections at the surgical wound site. Over 4,500 patients having major surgeries like heart, bone, or brain operations will receive either this new treatment or standard care. The goal is to see if the treatment, given right before surgery, safely reduces infections in the 30 days after the operation.
