Nose swab could stop deadly infections after trauma surgery

NCT ID NCT05763602

Summary

This study is testing whether applying an iodine gel inside the nose can prevent serious surgical site infections in patients having emergency surgery for severe leg fractures. The gel aims to kill Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, a common cause of dangerous infections, before they can cause problems. Researchers are enrolling 2000 patients at high risk for infection to see if this simple, quick treatment improves their recovery.
